About Gradient
Gradient is the first and original AI-focused seed fund. We back founders building the next generation of AI companies. We're small, founder-centric, and technical to our core. We’re not just investors, but builders, mentors, and champions who work side-by-side with our founders through every challenge and triumph. We're bold about what we back, championing disruptive ideas with the potential to redefine industries, and we earn founders' trust by being transparent and in it for the long-haul.
We're hiring an Investor to join our team, whose focus will be finding and backing exceptional founders in pools we don't currently reach, including university research labs, frontier-lab alumni networks, and emerging founder communities. We want someone technical, hungry and relationship obsessed, who treats meeting founders as a privilege and a passion, and who will be at every meaningful event, on campuses, and in the communities forming the next generation of AI companies.
What you'll do
Source relentlessly. Build and own relationships with founders, researchers, and operators, especially in pools outside where Gradient already looks.
Run early diligence. Bring the strongest opportunities to the team with a clear point of view.
Develop a thesis and a public presence. Write, speak, and show up where the next generation of founders are.
Represent Gradient across the ecosystem. Show up at the events and on the campuses where founders form, so that no meaningful seed round happens in your corner of the market without us seeing it.
What we're looking for
A technical foundation and/or a founder's background. A CS/STEM degree and/or experience as a founder or founding-team member of a startup. One of these is a must.
A love of the hunt. Experience angel investing, scouting, writing, organizing events, or building community.
Peer-level credibility with technical founders. The ability to deeply understand and engage in conversations about models, infrastructure, or product.
A strong, fast-growing network. Real reach into communities Gradient doesn't already cover.
Hunger to be out in the world. Drive for meeting founders in person, not waiting at a desk for deals to arrive.
Based in San Francisco or willing to relocate. Able to be in office 3 days/week and to travel for sourcing.
